England - Yorkshire to Peak District

August is a great time to visit Calke Abbey to see its gardens at their best. At its peak, this garden produced enough fruit and vegetables for the Harpur-Crewe family with surplus to sell locally at market. Like the rest of Calke this garden fell into decline until the National Trust took over.
